US to End Inbound Testing Requirement on Sunday
United States is finally ending the Covid-19 testing requirements for inbound air travelers from abroad. The White House revealed the news this morning.
Airlines, other travel industry members, and mayors from major cities, have repeatedly pushed the administration for months to drop the requirement.
The move, which was first reported by CNN, will go into effect for US-bound air travelers at midnight on Sunday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has determined that the testing requirement is no longer necessary. The CDC will reassess its decision in 90 days to decide if they need to reinstate it. So you don’t have to worry about your summer travels at least.
The measure has been in place since January 2021. It requires inbound travelers, including U.S. citizens, to show proof of a negative Covid test before boarding U.S.-bound flights. It is seen as an unnecessary hurdle and major deterrent for tourists to visit the US. It’s also a problem for Americans traveling abroad, who have to make sure they find a testing site, or purchase testing kits, so they can get tested before returning.
