Rumor – Delta Lounges Will Limit Access to Amex Cardholders
A redittor is reporting upcoming changes to Delta SkyClub access for American Express cardholders. I would consider this just a rumor for now, but the user in question seems to have some legit information from American Express.
Here’s a quick recap of the changes:
- Amex Delta Reserve: 10 complimentary visits per year and only for the primary cardmember. Authorized users can access lounges, but those visits will count against the 10 limit. To keep unrestricted access for basic cardmember and additional users, you must spend $75,000 per year.
- Amex Platinum: 6 complimentary visits per year.
- Amex Delta Platinum: Might lose access completely, or might be limited to 10 visits by paying $50 per visit.

Here’s what’s being reported:
There is a huge change coming to Amex Delta credit cards and Amex Platinum cards in terms of lounge access.
Delta will be restricting access to Delta Platinum cards, and Delta Reserve cards will still have access but greatly restricted starting on 2024-2025. Amex Platinum card holders will also be restricted from Delta Skyclubs and will have only up to 6 complimentary access per year.
He then explains further:
So far, Delta and Amex have announced changes to the Delta Skyclubs ONLY! Delta Reserve limit to 10 visits per year, and only basic cardmember. To keep unrestricted access for basic cardmember and additional users, you must spend $75,000 per year.
Delta Platinum will lose access to the lounge; Delta is still deciding if Delta Platinum will keep 10 visits by paying, but it’s not something they have advised yet.
The main reason for these changes is just crowded lounges. Just the way Amex did with Centurion lounges and they started limits on the Plat card. No other reasons have been given internally.
These changes will start to apply sometime in January or February of 2024, and fully implemented by 2025. Emails will be sent by Sep and Oct 2023.
We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out, or if there’s any truth to it at all.
