Negative Change for JetBlue Travel Credits
JetBlue has quietly made changes to the terms of its Travel Bank credits. Your JetBlue Travel Bank is an online account where you can access and manage any JetBlue travel credits you’ve received.
On March 8th, the way the expiration date is calculated was updated for the worse.
The new rules state that “tickets that are voluntarily cancelled or exchanged to a lower fare, funds are returned as a JetBlue travel credit that is valid for 12 months from the original ticketing date.” For tickets booked before Mar 8, 2023 that are voluntarily cancelled or exchanged to a lower fare, funds are returned as a JetBlue travel credit that is valid for 12 months from the date the credit is issued.
So the difference is when the 12 month clock start. Previously it was when the credit was issued and now it’s when the flight was booked. That means that you can book a flight today for travel in October and if you decide to cancel just a few days before traveling, you’ll only have about six months to use your credit instead of a year.
This is a big devaluation of these credits, especially for people who book well in advance. And it’s even worse that it was done without any notice.
