Hyatt Will Introduce Award Chart Changes on Oct. 26
Update (Oct. 20, 2021) – Off-peak and Peak pricing has been suspended since March 2020. We now know that these new redemption options will be introduced for stays booked starting Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 10:00am CT, for nights March 1, 2022 and beyond. This means that free-night redemptions will continue to be at Standard rates for nights through February 28, 2022.
Some more details about these changes:
- This new structure will be true for all types of award nights, including free nights in a standard room, club-access room, standard and premium suites.
- Points + Cash awards will also offer Off-peak and Peak point redemption. With Points+Cash, members can save 50% of the points required for a free night and 50-70% off the Standard Rate.
- If a member has an existing award reservation that changes to Off-peak on October 26, 2021, Hyatt will automatically refund the point difference. If it changes to Peak, Hyatt will not charge any additional points.
- Members will have plenty of time to plan ahead. Redemption rates for free nights will be announced as soon as nights are available for reservations (usually 13 months in advance). A new online calendar will also be available to assist in planning.
- Category-based Free Night Awards, such as a Category 1-4 or Category 1-7 Free Night Award will not be affected by the new structure. For example, you can use a Category 1-4 Award during an Off-peak, Standard or Peak night.
- Hotel award categories are not changing and will remain 1-8.

Update (Oct. 13, 2021) – It looks like Hyatt will no longer push off these award chart changes. The hotel chain introduce Off-Peak and Peak points pricing in mid-October 2021, as it was previously announced. The information comes from DansDeals who says has received confirmation from Hyatt.
When the new award chart goes into effect, hotel stays starting in March 2022 will price at off-peak, standard, or peak pricing. So it’s a good idea to start getting your bookings done now. Mid-October could mean that these changes are coming in the next few days.
Hyatt Delays Award Chart Changes, Extends Points Expiration
Original Article (Jun. 25, 2021) – Hyatt has some good news for its members today. World of Hyatt was supposed to introduce peak and off-peak pricing last year. But plans were delayed due to the pandemic. The planned changes were as follows:
- Off-peak – Starting at 3,500 points per night – the best value when hotels are less busy
- Standard – Stays the same, starting at 5,000 points per night – the most common rate
- Peak – Starting at 6,500 points per night – when hotels are busiest
Now Hyatt has announced that it will delay the introduction of peak award pricing until later this year. Hyatt told me that they are further postponing the introduction of Off-Peak and Peak point redemption until mid-October 2021. You will be able to book with the current award chart through March of next year. Starting mid-October, members will start to see Off-peak and Peak pricing for stays in March 2022 and beyond.
Hyatt is also extending the suspension on points forfeiture. Previously suspended through June 30, 2021, Hyatt is further suspending the forfeiture of points through December 31, 2021. As a reminder, the general policy is that points do not expire, but they will be forfeited if a member’s account is inactive for 24 months. As a result of the extensions, this means that any member without qualifying activity for 24 or more months as of December 31, 2021 will forfeit their points in January 2022.
Previously Announced
- Members have more time to redeem their awards: All unused Suite Upgrade and Club Lounge Access awards that had February 28, 2021, expiration dates have been extended through December 31, 2021. In addition, all unused Free Night awards that were earned in 2020 with 2021 expiration dates have been extended to December 31, 2021. This gives members more time to take advantage of any unused awards before the end of year!
- Members can earn elite status twice as fast in 2021: Requirements for earning elite tiers in 2021 have been lowered by 50%. This means that members are able to qualify or requalify for elite status with half the Tier-Qualifying Nights or Base Points normally required.
