Hong Kong is a popular tourist destination. It welcomed around 56 million visitors a year before the pandemic. Now, after dropping some of the stricter restrictions for visitors, it is taking significant steps to win tourists back.

Just days after dropping the mandatory hotel quarantine requirement, Hong Kong has confirmed plans to give away half a million airline tickets to bring back tourists. The move was first announced two years ago, with 500,000 tickets going to global visitors, along with residents.

Airport Authority Hong Kong purchased the tickets as part of a relief package worth up to HK$2 billion ($250M), providing support to airlines and aviation support services operators. The tickets were purchased from the four home-based airlines.

Further details about when and how these tickets will be distributed, will be announced once the relevant arrangements have been made with airlines.
