Delta Waives Fees and Fare Difference for July 4th Weekend Flight Changes
Delta Air Lines is is letting passengers change their tickets for free during the busy Fourth of July weekend. Delta customers can avoid paying a fare difference and skip the airport during a “potentially challenging” few days. Delta says it is providing more flexibility to customers for changing their travel plans, but it is only giving them an extra few days to fly.
The airline is issuing a systemwide fare difference travel waiver for July 1-4, which allows customers to rebook their trip with no fare difference or change fees, as long as customers travel between the same origin and destination. Customers can adjust their travel plans via My Trips or the Fly Delta app. Rebooked travel needs to take place by July 8, 2022.
The Atlanta-based airline says that it is “working around the clock” to rebuild its operation. But it says that some operational challenges are expected this holiday weekend. Delta is expected to carry customer volumes from Friday, July 1, through Monday, July 4, not seen since before the pandemic.
Waivers are typically issued only for a limited geographic area, reserved for weather events that are likely to cause widespread delays and cancellations. But this summer we have already seen major disruptions for most major airlines, and the Fourth of July weekend should be even more challenging.
