News Roundup

This is a roundup of news and other interesting pieces that I’ve come across over the last few days. Read about Delta imposing a $200 monthly surcharge on unvaccinated employees, Air Marshal confessions, World’s first crewless, zero emissions cargo ship, and more.

Delta Air Lines to Impose Monthly Surcharge on Unvaccinated Employees

Delta Air Lines will impose a $200 monthly surcharge on employees who aren’t vaccinated against Covid-19, becoming the first major U.S. company to levy a penalty to encourage workers to get protected.

The new policy was outlined in a company memo Wednesday from Chief Executive Officer Ed Bastian, who said 75% of the carrier’s workers already are vaccinated. Increasing cases of coronavirus linked to a “very aggressive” variant are driving the push for all employees to get the shots, he said.

Air Marshal Confessions, Flying with the Good, the Bad and the Very Ugly

During those early days following September 11th, many veteran SWAT officers, Navy SEALS, Delta Force and a few hand selected airborne soldiers were called again to serve as Air Marshals.

Most people often wonder. “Is there an Air Marshal on board” and “where do they sit?” “What are some of the crazy stories they can tell?” Check out the article tons of info and details from a twenty year Law Enforcement veteran and one of first U.S. Federal Air Marshals selected after 9/11.

A Good, Almost Great, Charles Schwab Amex Platinum Retention Offer

In the past you always had to call in for retention offers which was annoying. Now these you can check for these retention offers by chat as well, which is my preferred option.

The retention offer reported by Mark at Miles to Memories for the Charles Schwab Amex Platinum card is for 55,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $4,000 within the next 3 months. A sweet offer. This card is valuable as it gives you the option to cash out points at 1.25 cents each for a few more days, and then 1.10 cents after that.

About that Venmo credit card limit…

The Venmo Visa credit card currently has a double cash back promo until 12/31. The promotion has a limit of $10,000 in spend through the end of the year…, but maybe not. Clearly there’s tons of risk with this.

World’s first crewless, zero emissions cargo ship will set sail in Norway

A Norwegian company has created what it calls the world’s first zero-emission, autonomous cargo ship. If all goes to plan, the ship will make its first journey between two Norwegian towns before the end of the year, with no crew onboard. Instead, its movements will be monitored from three onshore data control centers.
